What's Happening in the Courthouse? Stolen money and possession of drugs

Every week, Rameez Khan of Kfm Mornings makes his way to courthouses across Cape Town to hear their stories. This week, Rameez made his way to the Kuils River Magistrates' Court. Rameez first speaks to a pensioner visiting the small claims court. After paying a R11,000 deposit for materials to erect a wall, the builder she hired ran off with her money. She has been back and forth in court for months. When the Magistrate requested that the builder pay off the stolen money in R1000 instalments, the man agreed - only to never pay a cent. The second person Rameez speaks to at court for possession of drugs. He claims that he is being framed by the police. Two policemen reprimanded him whilst another planted the drugs near him. The case has been ongoing for over a year.

What's Happening at the Courthouse? Divorce and frequent robbery victim

Every week, Rameez Khan of Kfm Mornings makes his way to courthouses across Cape Town to hear their stories. This week, Rameez made his way to the Bellville Magistrates' Court. Rameez first meets a gentleman who after 10 years of marriage, has decided to pursue a divorce. He and his soon-to-be ex-wife share three children together. They have tried counselling but he feels it's better for the kids if they go their separate ways.  The second man Rameez speaks to has been robbed on numerable occasions. Most recently, he was accosted by 5 men on a train between Klapmuts and Paarl station.

What's happening at the Courthouse? Child maintenance, furniture theft and half a joint

Every week, Rameez Khan of Kfm Mornings makes his way to courthouses across Cape Town to hear their stories. This week, Rameez made his way to Cape Town CBD and Mitchells Plain Magistrates' Court. The first person that Rameez chats to explains that his friend was previously convicted after being caught with half a joint. As a result, he has a criminal record and has since struggled to find a job. They are at court to appeal and clear his name. Rameez then encounters a man looking to bail his friend out of jail. It's a bizarre story as she's been accused of stealing a table, chairs and rugs - all worth R30,000 - from a bistro. He explains that the story makes no sense as there's no way a single lady could manage to lug all those furniture items out by herself. The last person Rameez encounters shares that she's been coming to court for almost two years to sort out maintenance from her estranged husband for her two young children. They are still married but separated when he left her for another woman when their daughter was a mere 3-months old.

He explains that his wife's cousin has been accused of attempted robbery. A case was laid against her for stealing her own takkies back from a friend.

He first spoke to a gentleman who explained that one of his workers is appearing in court on a theft charge. He was caught on camera trying to flog off some products at another franchise. What's shocking is that it was an employee that he would never expect. Rameez then met with a young lady in court because her elderly next-door neighbour accused her of trespassing. She explains that they live in a sectional title and she often sits outside on the stairs with her friends however the old lady has laid a case claiming it is her property. Rameez also meets with a young lady appearing in court for drug possession. She claims that the drugs were not hers, she covered up for a friend to save him from going to prison. What's happening at the courthouse? Abusive marriage and Malicious property damage

Every week, Rameez Khan of Kfm Mornings makes his way to courthouses across Cape Town to hear their stories. In this episode, Rameez made his way to the Goodwood Magistrates Court. He spoke with a woman in the midst of a divorce from her abusive husband. They've been together for 4 years, 2 of them married. She felt that if she stayed with him and loved him enough, he would change. After realizing that would not be the case, she has filed for divorce and aims to provide a better environment for her two young children.  Rameez also met with a man in court for malicious damage of property. Intent on heading to work after a night out, the man drunkenly and accidentally broke down the door to the wrong factory thinking it was his workplace. After realizing his mistake, he called the owner to apologize. What's happening at the courthouse? Foster children and a property scam

Every week, Rameez Khan of Kfm Mornings makes his way to courthouses across Cape Town to hear their stories. This week he spent time at the Paarl Magistrates Court. There he met with a foster mother whose adoption case has been languishing for 6 years. She explained that the adoption process can take up to 18 years, and biological parents are free to change their minds at any time. It's hard on foster parents but the upside is that the kids are safe and not in the system.  He also met with another woman who had been scammed when she bought a house for R18,000, 11 years prior. She did not sign any paperwork and the house was never transferred to her name. She's in the midst of sorting out the matter in civil court.

Every week, Rameez Khan of Kfm Mornings makes his way to courthouses across Cape Town to hear their stories - and sometimes dole out some advice. This week he spent time at the Cape Town CBD Court. In the latest episode of "What's happening in the Courthouse?", Rameez speaks with a woman whose brother has been convicted with attempted theft of a motorbike. His concerned sister explains that her brother had no intention of stealing the bike, he was merely caught sitting on it. She also feels that the court is not always right, conviction sometimes depends on how strong a case is.  The second person Rameez speaks to is in court for alleged negligent driving charges. He shares that while he was in the car, he was not the one driving. What's happening at the courthouse? Burglary and a Maintenance Charge

Every week, Rameez Khan of Kfm Mornings makes his way to courthouses across Cape Town to hear their stories. This week, he spent time at Bellville and Wynberg Magistrate's Court. There he met with a guy who is at court because his house was broken into. The perpetrator was found two houses away with his loot of copper piping and two laptops which he had stolen from neighbouring houses. It's the second time that the victim has been in court due to delays. The offender is currently in holding for another theft case.  The second guy Rameez speaks to is at court for a maintenance charge. It's a complex story - initially, his estranged wife had sole custody and did not want financial help, but he voluntarily opted to contribute and so they agreed on a settlement.
