World Oceans Day — observed annually on 8 June — serves to celebrate our world’s shared ocean as well as to raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives and how we can work together to protect it.
Rocket, the Kfm Mascot, is passionate about the conservation of the ocean and reached out to a few local organizations to find out what they're doing to observe World Oceans Day and how we can help!
Two Oceans Aquarium
Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation’s turtle rehabilitation programme rehabilitates a number of sea turtles of all sizes each year. These turtles are found stranded on Western Cape beaches.
Help them reach their fundraising target by donating to their conservation fund! Your donation will directly fund the work they do with their turtle rescue, rehabilitation and release programme.
Did you know that the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation has rehabilitated and released more than 600 sea turtles?
These turtles are found stranded on Western Cape beaches. Rehabilitation can take between a couple of months, up to many years. You can help sea turtles by donating towards their rehabilitation.

Cape Town Beach Clean Up
Cape Town Beach Clean Up is hosting beach clean-ups on 12 June at Sea Point, Camps Bay, Hout Bay and Muizenberg.
Their goal is to collect 50 tons of plastic — as well as other materials like paper, tin etc — over the next 6 months.
The NPO has also launched a recycling collection initiative with 30 schools as part of an “Inland Cleanup Project” where they aim to teach kids about recycling, looking after their community and environment all while raising funds from the materials collected.

PETCO aims to keep plastic bottles out of the environment where they do not belong.
When you recycle your PET plastic bottles they can be made into duvet stuffing, car mats or even into brand new PET plastic bottles. This also creates income opportunities for many South Africans.
PETCO has built partnerships with numerous initiatives to either increase education and raise awareness or to sponsor equipment and infrastructure.

Did you know that in 2019, 95 879 tonnes of post-consumer PET plastic bottles were recycled in South Africa. This means that 6 million bottles were collected for recycling every day.
