What to watch on Showmax this Christmas weekend

Carol

A powerful drama about a married woman in 1950s New York, who risks everything when she embarks on a romance with a younger department store worker.

Carol ranks at number 10 on Rotten Tomatoes list of the best Christmas films of all time and lead actresses Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara were nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively at the 2016 Oscars for their powerful performances.

LAST CHRISTMAS

Nothing seems to go right for Kate (Emilia Clarke) who works as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop in London.

Then she meets handsome Tom (Henry Golding); he seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of her barriers.

TROUKOORS

Created by SAFTA winner Louis Pretorius and SAFTA nominee Albert Snyman, Troukoors (Wedding Fever) centres around Jessica (Ilse-Lee van Niekerk) a wedding planner who’s in love with love but struggling to find it for herself.

She longs for the perfect wedding on a perfect day to the perfect person but she and her friends soon realize that it isn’t how real life and real love works.

The Showmax Original features a star-studded cast including Fleur du Cap nominee Bianca Flanders, former child star Blyde Smit as well as SAFTA-winners, Kevin Smith and Tinarie van Wyk Loots.
