Avid cyclist Liezel van der Westhuizen joins CapeTalk's Africa Melane to talk about Khaltsha Cycles revival of its Heroes on Bikes campaign.

The Khayelitsha based bicycle shop has teamed up with the Pedal Power Association for a project that they started during the hard lockdown.

The campaign aims to secure bicycles to help essential workers in the Western Cape affected by taxi strikes.

Khaltsha Cycles want to inspire and encourage cycling in townships as a way to transform lives and the community.

They have many social events, they promote cycling mobility, they've got safe cycling classes... beginner cycling classes... women cycling...

They've distributed 370 bicycles to essential workers, small businesses and nonprofit organisations distributing food, medicines and assisting people with disabilities.... in the last year.

Sindile Mavundla. Founder of Khaltsha Cycles shares more on their Heroes on Bikes initiative.

Together with Pedal Power, we are bringing our hero and bikes campaign again. We started this campaign last year where we started raising money for bicycles, these we then distributed to essential workers across the city

Sindile Mavundla, Founder & Managing Director of Khaltsha Cycles

We thought let us revive this campaign again. Khaltsha Cycles and Pedal Power will be donating 50 bicycles and we are asking listeners and the residents across the city to match this donation by raising or contributing towards this campaign to raise 50 additional bicycles.
