2020 was a tough year for everybody, and Danya Goosen is no exception.

The Lotus Street Foundation Founder says that just after the national lockdown was announced, her mother was diagnosed with brain cancer, her father tested positive for covid-19 and she herself suffered a miscarriage.

Growing up in the community of the Cape Flats, our parents raised us from a young age to be strong and independent and to face every day with faith and I think that just pulled me through

I still have bad days... I just believe that there is another person out there that's experiencing 10 times worse or they might just need me to be there for them... that for me is my motivation to get up every day

We are a women-led non-profit and public benefit organisation. Our core focus is basically is to uplift, empower and provide much-needed relief in the communities of the Cape Flats.

With covid happening and obviously me experiencing it myself and also growing up with poverty around us, gangsterism around us Lotus Street Foundation is basically there to uplift and empower everyone living in those circumstances.

We have our care pack drives, we have food drives, we have health programmes that we run in schools in and around the communities of the Cape Flats.
