Today, despite the weather, we celebrate Spring Day!

But have you ever wondered why we do that on the 1st September? Many people think that it has something to do with the Equinox, but the true Spring Equinox only occurs on the 22nd September this year.

The actual reason might be a bit disappointing: in 1780 an international group of meteorologists decided to break the year up into 4 quarters, each one starting on the 1st March, 1st June, 1st September and 1st December.
