Making a career move during the pandemic

Considering a career change during the pandemic? Tracey Lange turns to Sanlam's Head of Chanel and Segment Marketing, Lee Hancox for advice.  Many people have faced retrenchment, what can they do? The most important thing to remember is to stay calm, and that you've done nothing wrong. Keep a clear head during this time, being panicked raises the chance of making knee-jerk reactions Should we use this time to update our CVs? It's critical at this time to focus on skills and not necessarily just job titles.  Prospective employers are going to want to know what skills you have, and how adaptable you can be... What should people who are considering moving jobs keep in mind? It's important to evaluate your reasoning. So why are you considering changing jobs, is it because you are unhappy? You want a change of pace? A change of scenery? Use a mentor or a friend as a springboard to discuss the pros and cons of why you're looking at changing jobs.

Kids of today won't understand

You know that you're getting old when you start talking about things that kids of today will never ever understand.  Tracey Lange says that when she was a teenager, her father was the only person in the household with a cellphone, she would message her friends then tell them not to respond because it was her dad's phone. Another trick with the landline, when you wanted to call a friend or cousin, you would dial a number on the phone and the phone would ring after you put down. When the phone would ring, you'd pretend that the phone call is for you and then quickly dial your friend's number! Listen to the audio for more things that kids of today would never understand.

Tracey on exam time when she was in school

Tracey Lange reflects on exam time when she was still at school.  She admits that she wasn't that into school, "I should have paid more attention, yes definitely, but I just wasn't a fan of it." But the worst was when it came to the exam season.  Those awkward moments when you were confident in your answers only to learn that either the question had an error in it or that you were completely off course with your answer.  "When you hear your friends arguing after the exam whether the answer was 35.5 or 36 - but my answer would be South Africa" She's not the only one! Listeners shared their hilarious exam experiences.

Rabbits are cute but they chew through everything

Tracey Lange admits that she didn't know what she is in for when she adopted two little rabbits.  Will and Grace are fluffy, cuddly and irresistibly cute - just look at the pictures! - but they're so mischievous.  Specifically their habit of chewing through... everything.  Tracey's bunnies have destroyed cables, handbags, shoes and even her wooden deck.  "It's ridiculous but no one warns you about this!"

Saving Muizenberg's iconic beach huts

All Capetonians are well acquainted with the colourful beach huts along the False Bay coast.  But in recent years and as a result of the August 2020 fire - these popular tourist attractions have been in need of urgent attention. Local resident, Angela Gorman decided to get the community together to restore the dilapidated beach boxes through a social media campaign called 'Save Our Beach Huts'. Tracey Lange spoke to Angela about the initiative.  The project started eight weeks ago, we've just started restoring now... just a campaign that we started on Facebook and Instagram to infuse people and to get them excited about the fact that we ourselves can do it. We can restore all 31 beach huts if everyone pulls together and offers their time, offers their expertise if they're a company, offers donations of timber, of paint... it has just been the most incredible little journey we've been on in Muizenberg. The community project has come together to restore the 31 beach huts on Muizenberg Beach and 16 along St. James Beach to its former glory.  This time instead of wood, the beach boxes are rebuilt with Nutec, a cement-based product which is fire, mould, sea and sand resistant.
