Dineplan, a local online restaurant booking site, launched an initiative to help struggling restaurants, cafes and small businesses generate cash flow during the lockdown period.

The campaign encourages consumers to buy vouchers at their favourite local spot's to be used once lockdown restrictions have eased.

Tracey Lange chats to Greg Whitfield, Director and Co-owner of Dineplan about their voucher platform.

Dineplan's normal business is a restaurant reservation platform, and so with the lockdown happening, reservations very quickly came to an abrupt stop.

... we quickly saw the devastating effects that the lockdown has had on our restaurant clients with many closing their doors, and retrenching staff... so we wanted to do what we could to help and we developed a voucher platform and called it Voucherplan...

... it allows restaurants and other businesses to sell vouchers now to generate some cash flow to pay staff, put food on the table and for consumers to redeem later once they are able to trade again.

... we now have just under 400 businesses on the platform selling vouchers, it's been fantastic and consumers have really responded well. We managed to sell nearly R1.8 million in vouchers...
