J.K. Rowling is the author of the much-loved series of seven Harry Potter novels.
In her 2008 Harvard Commencement Address, Rowling shared that when she had “failed on an epic scale” she was left with only two choices to make: either continue to hold unto societies negative beliefs about failure or use rock bottom as a solid foundation to rebuild her life.
"Ultimately, we all have to decide for ourselves what constitutes failure, but the world is quite eager to give you a set of criteria if you let it..."
"Failure was a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me."
