Lockdown Lowdown is a segment on Tuesday's and Thursdays at 13.40 where EB Inglis brings in experts to chat about various topics that could help us during the national lockdown period.

This week, EB Inglis is joined by Dr Karienya Kasvalu, a Medical Officer working in the emergency centre units at all Melomed Hospitals in Cape Town.

Dr Kasvalu takes on a hotly debated topic on social media and in personal conversations: Do face masks help in curbing the spread of COVID-19?

People who should be wearing masks are those who directly looking after COVID-19 positive patients whom are also carers - so maybe not health workers but are caring for patients as such.

And anyone in the general population who is experiencing or has respiratory symptoms.

The World Health Organization shows that there is no concrete evidence actually proving that wearing a mask prevents you from getting it.

We're not saying don't wear it, and that it's something you shouldn't do it all. If you are going to wear it, you should use it correctly.
