CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Transport Department has proposed a 4.5% increase in motor vehicle licensing fees.

The department says the funds will be used to build, upgrade and maintain the province’s roads.

Western Cape Transport Department spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said: “This year, the proposed increase amounts to about 4.5% for the Western Cape motor vehicle licensing fees. The fees will be used to build and maintain the provincially owned road network and to assist municipalities.”

The draft regulation is open for public comment until 15 January.
