Benni McCarthy has been appointed as the new coach of PSL team CapeTown City.

Cape Town City unveiled McCarthy as their new coach on Tuesday. He takes over from Eric Tinkler.

This is McCarthy’s first post as a head coach and he says he remains confident about the task ahead.

The 39-year-old says he realises that he will have to work hard and face many critics at his new job.

I know the job at hand and I know how hard I have to work.

McCarthy says hard work, discipline and dedication will guide his success, despite his lack of experience.

He says he didn't expect that Cape Town City FC chairman John Comitis had so much confidence in him.

I was surprised. I spoke to him about his vision, ambitions and what he has in store, it really impressed me.

I would've been the biggest fool not to want to be a part of this.

The icon says he will use his new position to train up soccer stars that can go on to be even better than him.

Wait until they learn from what I teach them... People will forget about Benni McCarthy existing, but the new stars of today that I'm coaching.

He admits to having a little anxiety, but says he doesn't believe in the fear of failure.

It's not the code that I live by, to be afraid to fail.
